What is Herbal Medicine?
Herbal medicine combines both ancient uses of herbal medicine and the most modern, scientific research and applications. Herbal medicine has been around for a very long time; in fact, it may be the oldest therapeutic medicine known to man. According to archaeologists the use of medicinal plants dates back 30,000 - 50,000 years.
As a Medical Herbalist I am trained in herbal pharmacology, diagnostics, pathology, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry. My training enables me to combine both traditional uses of herbal medicine with scientifically proven herbal preparations and other natural therapies such as diet and lifestyle advise.

So, when you come to see me, I will assess your body for signs and symptoms that indicate the use of certain herbs. I will also use kinesiology to assess each of your organs and glands energetically this gives me a deeper insight to which herbs are best for you enabling me to make up an herbal formula that’s specifically tailored to your health concerns.
How Does Herbal Medicine Work?
Herbal medicine works in a few different ways that combine together this is known
as the synergy of herbal medicine and is a very important aspect of this type of
medicine.
The man factors are:
-
Herbal constituents known as phytochemical: such as polyphenols, anthraquinones and amines
-
Nutrients contained within the plant: vitamins, minerals, proteins, sugars and lipids
-
The energetics that each plant provides e.g. whether it's warming, cooling, dispersing, moistening
Do you know that many of the pharmaceutically derived medicines are made from plant isolates? These isolates are then synthetically manufactured which is one of the main reasons why pharmaceutical drugs have side effects. Medicinal herbs naturally contain a mixture of plant chemicals, so when they are taken internally aren’t so hard on the body. A good example of this "herbal synergy" is found in the plant meadowsweet, which is used for stomach complains. The plant contains salicylic acid which is closely related to aspirin. The compound can cause internal bleeding from the stomach wall but meadowsweet contain compounds called polyphenols, which protect the stomach.
